The leading sale for National Hunt Foals, Yearlings and Mares A three-day sale of National Hunt-bred foals, yearlings and broodmares offers stock from Ireland’s leading National Hunt breeders, and is long established as the leading sale of its type. The record for the highest priced National Hunt foal ever sold in Ireland was set at this sale in 2007, when a daughter of Presenting, out of a half-sister to the three-time Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Best Mate, was purchased for €210,000. The 2024 edition of the sale saw two foals end the sale as the joint top priced lots, with both being purchased for €110,000. In total, seven foals were sold for €70,000 or more, 22 foals were sold for €50,000 or more, and 40 foals were sold for €40,000 or more. The breeding stock section has seen high class mares such as Benie Des Dieux, Laurina, Let’s Dance and Aintree Grand National runner-up offered for sale after their racing careers had come to an end. Leading Champion Hurdle candidate The New Lion is a graduate of the 2019 edition. Dan Skelton’s charge remained unbeaten in four starts as a novice hurdler, the highlight being victory in the Grade 1 Turners Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. Hiddenvalley Lake, Banbridge, Honesty Policy and Hello Neighbour are also November graduates to have won at the top level during the 2024/25 NH season. The 2023 Champion Hurdle winner Constitution Hill is a graduate of the 2017 edition, and in 2023 became the third-highest-rated two-mile-hurdler ever in the Anglo-Irish Jumps Classifications. Ballyburn was sold at the 2018 November National Hunt Sale and is now a four-time Grade 1 winner. Other graduates to have won at the Grade 1 level include Shishkin, Stay Away Fay, Captain Teague, and Appreciate It.
